10K Day, July 16, 2009:

Well, I've gotten off to a slow start. I've been working on my "Cottage" novel, the romance/ paranormal. My current word count for today is 3,079. Not too bad, but I expect it to speed up now that I'll be switching to Zane Greywolf. :)

Here's a very short excerpt from "Cottage":
I don't know what time it was when I woke up. At first, I was a bit disoriented, but as I lay there listening, I began to hear voices, hushed voices, as if there were people in the room with me and they were keeping their voices down trying not to awaken me. I couldn't distinguish what they were saying, but I knew it was voices I was hearing.

I reached for my cell phone where it sat on the floor beside the bed and the voices stopped.

I sat up and turned on the small lamp sitting on the floor beside me. I looked around the room, but no one was there. I got up and walked over to the window, expecting to see people walking around outside. There was no one out there.

Update: I'm now at 7,727 words. I worked on my Zane Greywolf novel, wrote up Fox's second post and am now in the middle of Sawyer's second post. After I finish this post, I have another scene or two in mind for Fox and/ or Sawyer, so it should be fun. :)

I'll be back later to update again! :D

~*~*~*~

Update: I've done it! :D My final word count for today is 10,773! *happy dance*

I finished Sawyer's second journal entry, then I worked on the scene I wanted to write. Here's a short excerpt:
Suddenly, Burns, Ramsey, Travis and Giles pulled their bandannas up 'round their faces and waved their guns around, tellin' everyone to get down.

I began to sink to my knees, but Giles pulled me to my feet.

“Not you. You've gotta get the cash.”

“I what?” I exclaimed, starin' at him.

“You heard me,” he said. “Get back in there and fill up these bags.”

“And if I don't?”

Giles touched the tip of his gun's barrel to my forehead.

“Bang!”

He laughed and I failed to see the humor in his joke...

...We mounted our horses and hightailed it out of there as fast as we could, sprayin' dust and gravel everywhere. My heart was pumpin' faster than ever. I loved action, but this kind of action I could do without. I was gonna be in a lot of trouble thanks to these guys.
Needless to say that Fox is in a heap of trouble. ;) But he's just found his brother. Sawyer is a drunk, at this point, and Fox doesn't know if he'll be much help, but his brother is his only hope of escape right now.

So, the day got off to a slow start, but I finally did it. I reached 10K+ by about 8:00 p.m. I'm a happy camper. :)

New Character Journal:

Click the above image to view it larger.

Just wanted to let you know I've got a character journal up over at LiveJournal.

I'm in a bit of a hurry, but wanted to post a link here so you can check out Sons of the Wild Frontier: The Blog.

Now I'm off to spend some time with my hubby.

Have a great evening!

I'm A Featured Writer! :D

A friend of mine, Patti Stafford, has featured me on her Writing 101 blog. It's about being a passionate writer.

To read the short feature about my blogs, check it out here. :)

And if you're interested, you can read all about Lucky Raven and Zane Greywolf in their blogs. They've changed a lot over time, but that's how writing is. It's always changing and evolving as the writer grows and gains experience.

I'll be creating a character journal for my two new characters, too, and I'll post a link to it when it's up and has an entry or two. Be watching for it! :D

Have an awesome afternoon!

Lois

One Down, At Least One To Go:

I've finished the Lucky Raven outline...for now. I've completed it, but I may make changes to it by the time November rolls around. It's nice to have it finished, though. Now if I could just have someone read it and look for holes or inconsistencies or anything else that doesn't feel right...

Now I'm getting ready to start work on the outline for Fox and Sawyer Redman's story. I want to have a good start to it so I can begin writing it on Thursday for 10K day. I want to put the whole day into their story. I'll work on the "Cottage" and Zane Greywolf novels tomorrow during Wednesday Writing Sprints day.

But first I've got to check my e-mail and post this entry to LiveJournal, as well. I've also got to see about getting a character journal started for Fox and Sawyer. :)

Have a great day! :D

My First Scene:

I finally wrote that scene for my new story. I have to say, I'm already loving Fox and Sawyer Redman! *g*

It came to 1,216 words, altogether, minus the headings and my name as author.

I didn't write as much as I wanted to today, but I'm satisfied. I wrote the one thing I most wanted to write. :)

And now I'm going to bed.

G'night, all!

NAMES!

I've come up with names for the brothers in my epic: Fox and Sawyer Redman! :D

I must have spent an hour and a half looking for names (first and last) on the BabyNamesWorld site on ParentConnect. They don't seem to have very many American Indian names, but I still found perfect names for them. I'd already chosen Fox for the youngest brother, but hadn't yet come up with a name for his brother or a surname for them both. Now I have and I'm very happy with my choices. :)

Well, now that I have the names, I can do a little character sketching and start work on that scene...

I've also made one minor change: Fox will be the one to take on the Indian way of life, being his Cherokee mother's favorite son. Sawyer will be the one who adopts the white way, the ways of his father.
